Gigabyte B450 AORUS M Review: Is this the Best Motherboard under $100?

1. Design & Overview:

The Gigabyte’s B450 AORUS M is a Micro ATX Motherboard which might not be the latest and the greatest option in the market but it is still relevant today for its amazing features and its affordable pricing. If you have a limited budget and planning to build a PC, then this is one of the best motherboards you can get your hands on right now. Let’s see why.

The Motherboard was launched in mid-2018 along with B450 AORUS Pro for AMD’s 1st and 2nd gen Ryzen processors. It is well received by the consumers and still going great even today.

The design of this Mobo is very simple yet modern as it is equipped with digital LED & RGB LED headers which you can control from Gigabyte’s RGB fusion. The build quality of this B450 mobo is sturdy which is really great considering its price range.

Overall, The Gigabyte B450 AORUS M will surely impress you with its neat design and solid build quality.

2. Storage & RAM:

If you are a heavy user and like to overload your PC by running multiple apps/ programs in the background, then this is the kind of mobo you should go for as it comes with 4 DDR4 RAM slots on which you can install up to 128GB RAM. Quite impressive, right? The maximum RAM speed which you can push on this mobo is 3600 MHz which might not be great but not so bad either.

There is a total of 6 SATA 3 ports to connect multiple devices and there is 1 M.2 connector to use SSD.  There are 3 PCIe 3.0 slots available here on this mobo where 1 is running at 16 while the other two are running at 4 and 1 respectively. Just like the previous motherboard which I reviewed recently, this Mobo supports AMD’s Crossfire but isn’t compatible with Nvidia’s SLI which might be disappointing for a lot of gamers.

If you are a gamer who loves SLI more than Crossfire, you have to opt for other Mobo.

3. Performance:

As I said before, this B450 AORUS M is compatible only with AMD’s 1st and 2nd Gen CPU such as RYZEN 7 2700X. If you are looking to build a PC with Intel’s latest processor, you should take a look at Gigabyte Z390 UD. I would recommend using SSD in M.2 slot and install your operating system in that for fast boot-up. The operating system which is compatible with this B450 AORUS M is Windows 8, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. You can choose any of them as per your preference.

There are 3 fan headers available on this mobo of which 2 of them are system fan headers and 1 is a CPU fan. You can push up this mobo for overclocking but there are some limitations though.

5. USB and connectivity:

When it comes to the port selection of B450 AORUS M, it is pretty decent in my option. There are some cons too but it is understandable considering its pricing.

There USB ports which you’ll be getting on this mobo are,

* 6 USB 2.0 ports (2 of them is on real panel, 4 on the front)

* 6 USB 3.1 on the rear panel.

* 2 USB 3.1 in the front panel.

The biggest drawback here is, Gigabyte hasn’t offered a single USB Type-C port which is crucial these days for both gamers and non-gamers. The inclusion of USB Type-C would have been a lot better. Another major letdown of this mobo is that it doesn’t come with an onboard Wifi Adapter which you have to get it separately. Don’t worry, it won’t cost you than $20.

6. Pricing:

The pricing of this mobo is one of the key points of becoming a top-seller in its segment. Sure, there are other good motherboards available in this segment like ASRock B450M PRO4-F which costs almost the same but it lacks few features.

For instance, the ASRock B450M PRO4-F comes with only 4 SATA ports whereas the Gigabyte B450 AORUS M offers 6 SATA connectivity. Another major difference between these two motherboards is that the maximum RAM capacity in ASRock B450M PRO4-F is limited to only up to 64GB while you can go up to 128GB on B450 AORUS M.

I hope you may have got my point why B450 AORUS M justifies its pricing compared to its competitors.

Conclusion:

Well, let’s get to the main point now.

Should You Buy this Motherboard? or Should You opt for other mobos?

The answer is pretty simple and straightforward.

If you are a power user who likes to overlock your PCs, then this might not be the right option for you. You should go for a higher-end motherboard like X470.

But, If you are a normal user who wants to build a PC for not-so-high-heavy demanding apps and have a very limited budget, then there is no reason to ignore this motherboard.
