Gigabyte Z390 UD Review: Best 9th Gen Mobo Under $200?

Gigabyte is among one of the top brands in the world which it comes to providing high-quality motherboards. There is no doubt about that. Recently, I have reviewed Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite Wi-Fi on Computersforart where I have talked about that Motherboard in detail. Similarly, today I’m going to give you my full Gigabyte Z390 UD Review where I’m going to be talking about the Mobo in-depth and share my thoughts with you guys so that you can decide whether you should go for it or not.

The Gigabyte Z390 UD is an entry-level ATX Motherboard that was launched in late 2018 but it doesn’t mean that it isn’t relevant today. It has got a lot of features that are still relevant in the market and have the capability to play hardcore gamers and do stuff some heavy stuff like Hackintosh.

Without wasting any time, let’s talk about what Gigabyte Z390 UD has to offer.

Gigabyte Z390 UD Review: Is It Worth Buying in 2021?

 1. Processor:

The Gigabyte Z390 is built for Intel’s 8th and 9th Gen Processors out of the box. If you are planning to buy any 8th or 9th CPU to build your PC, then you can get this mobo without any hesitation. Similarly, it also supports some older processors such as 6th or 7th gen in the LGA1151 package. Make sure to get the right CPU that can match with this Gigabyte motherboard.

 2. Storage & RAM:

When it comes to Storage, there are plenty of options available in this Mobo. There is a total of 6 SATA ports offered by Gigabyte to connect storage devices like Hard Disk Drive. (Pro Tip: Learn Whether Your Motherboard Comes with SATA Cables or not)

Also, there is 1 M.2 port to install NVME PCIe SSDs which is much faster than HDD. For Multi-tasking, there are 4 DIMM slots on which you can install up to 128GB RAM with a max speed of up to 4400 MHz. I think it is more than enough to run a large number of app or programs in the background. There won’t be any question about the lag of performance with this kind of huge RAM.

3. Gaming & Operating System:

Whether you are a gamer or a non-gamer, you must check what type of options you are getting for gaming on any Motherboard. In this Mobo, you’ll be getting 6 PCIe slots and they are 1x PCI-E 3.0 x16 @ x16, 2x PCI-E 3.0 x16 @ x4, 3x PCI-E 3.0 x1@ x1. The good thing about the Mobo is, it supports AMD Quad-GPU CrossFire and If you are a pro-gamer, you would be surely happy about this feature.

This Mobo supports 4 major operating systems i.e Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 8 Pro, and Windows 10. I know the majority of the users want to use Windows 10 today still, If you prefer the other 3 versions, then this mobo is perfectly suitable for you.

 4. USB:

To connect any type of device, you need the appropriate USB ports. In this mobo, Gigabyte has offered essential ports which is just pretty average in my option. There are 8 x USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports available on this mobo, 6 of them are offered on the rear panel and 2 of them on the front panel. There are also 2 x USB 2.0/1.1 ports available in the front panel of the mobo. Apart from that, there is 1 HDMI, 1 x RJ-45 port, and 3 audio jack ports which are pretty basic yet very useful ports.

My only complaint here is, Gigabyte hasn’t equipped this mobo with a Type-C USB port which is very useful these days. If they would have delivered this mobo with a Type-C port, that would have been great but that is a major let down for many people (including me)

Other features which are missing in this mobo are, Wifi adapters and Bluetooth. I know both these things don’t cost you much but I’m here to notify you about that. This is a budget motherboard hence it isn’t fair to expect everything from it. You have to sacrifice some stuff to get a top motherboard like this.

 5. Pricing:

If you have a budget of around $200, then I have a piece of good news for you. The Gigabyte Z390 UD costs under $200 (Currently selling at $161) which I think is affordable for most gamers. Considering its features and reliability of Gigabyte, I think it is wise to invest in a good motherboard like this for long-term use.
